![]() There are a few secular all in one options. While it is nice that everything is laid out, typically your child is expected to adjust to the manner in which the material is taught. School-at-home methods are intended to recreate the school educational experience but at home. He also got curious about cooking (I joke that it was out of necessity as I only have like 5 good dishes I make) and in less than a few months got to the point of cooking better food than I've had at most restaurants around here. He has always been homeschooled and just graduated. He ended up earning half a highschool credit just for WWII because his curiosity took him down a path where he learned way more about WWII than was in any of his textbooks, and he ended up teaching me a lot that I was never taught. ![]() For example, my son developed a love for planes, machinery, etc. It's more about teaching your kids to find their own answers and giving them the resources to do it. It's typically more hands on, discovery led, and gives a lot more freedom. It allows you to tailor the educational experience to your children and their learning styles. Homeschooling takes on the perspective that learning is a natural consequence to being curious and that learning occurs all the time, not just at the times designated for school work. While we do get the whole box curriculum for each year, we use it more as a resource rather than following it exactly because there is a difference between homeschooling and school-at-home. Once I read the book above, it completely changed my perspective on homeschooling. When I first started homeschooling, I spent about 2 years looking for the perfect curriculum to only find there isn't one. Once you have chosen a method that will work best for your children and family as a whole, then it will help narrow down the curriculum and make the search a lot easier. It goes over about 15 different methods that range from like child lead learning or unschooling to methods that are more like school-at-home.
